Tiger Dance Company

This week is going to be busy in the classroom and out of the classroom. Tiger Dance Company is under way and all the dances are past half way and are looking great. Costumes are being ordered this week and the publicity has begun.

I love this time of the year and I can't wait to see what the dancers do for the show and how much money we raise for the Andrea Rizzo Memorial Foundation this charity even has their own blog!

We hope to see lots of Bluffton support as we take the Bluffton High School stage on April 28th at 6pm. Tickets can be bought at the door for $5.00 and there will be flowers for parents and friends to buy their dancers.

I love Demonstration Speeches!

Today was the first day of "Demonstration Speeches" in Speech class! I adore this speech because I too learn new things from students. It also gives the students a chance to see their peers doing something they can't always do in school. One speech in particular was impressive today.

Elijah taught us how to do back tucks from the standing position. I was unaware he would be literally doing this in class, I thought he had a video, so you can imagine my shock when he just popped a few out in front of the class! You can probably hear my fear/amazement in the background of the video. Enjoy!

Made my day.

This morning I was writing out the lesson plans on the board before school and I heard a, "Morning Bur!" I turned around a little surprised since I do not have a first period class anymore. I turned in time to see a warm smile from a former student, who has also been a student cadet as well as a swimmer!

He had in his had one the coolest framed pictures I have ever seen. I thought he was just showing me this neat art work, but he was actually GIVING it to me!

This framed art work (seen below) really made my day- and it is students that express this appreciation that make what to keep teaching FOREVER... or until I start making absolutely no sense. Thank you so much Sam Walburn for keep my teaching spirit up.

In the blink of an eye.

Well these past few weeks have just flown by. The classroom has kept me busy and as always it is full of surprises. English 11 just had their first BIG blog post. I am very impressed and happy with the content knowledge and percentage of students who followed instructions.

English 11: Romanticism and Gothic Literature are the main topics lately - we have an upcoming Descriptive Essay as well as an Expository/Lit. Analysis Essay.

Speech: My favorite speech is coming up! The Demonstration Speech is under way and I love seeing all the students making things in front of the class- I learn so much too!

Parents- please be expecting phone calls home now that we have a solid grade from midterm to stand on. I plan to keep all parents in the loop, be it a good information or bad.

Swimming has come to an end (insert sad face). I can't believe that this past weekend was the end of the road until next year- where did the season go? Congradulations to Rachel Emshwiller for her outstanding performance at state! I will keep everyone up to date for the winter sports banquet.

Dance starts in full swing this week- please look at the Tiger Dance Company web page for information, calendars and music! The Jazz A group will be performing at the basketball game this Saturday against Mississinewa @ 8pm. Come support!

English 11 - NonFicton Fun

Today English 11 reviewed readings from the past few days and had a quick quiz. The students, overall did very well and we even had time to watch a great clip about how the Declaration of Independence came to be- watch and enjoy!

I love using videos and images to help connect the past with today's need for visual stimulation. We also watched a quick School House Rock video on "The Boston Tea Party"- which the students schooled me on! For some reason I always thought there were guns and fire involved. NOPE!

Reminders
Speech: Chapter 3&4 Test tomorrow!
English 11: Vocabulary Quiz Friday!
